Springfield: Map & Compass

The second Mappy Hour in Springfield, started with name tags and a fun worksheet that had everyone fill in the blanks for topographic map terms. It was a good exercise to figure out what we all knew before diving into the educational part of the night.

Tonight’s presenter, Jason Bettis (Kuat Racks Adventure race captain) led a basic map and compass overview before he introduced the activity of the night. We would need to practice navigation from the brewery to locales nearby. After we practiced, we dove into local places to explore including Missouri State Parks. Jason closed with a funny story about an adventure race he did when he got lost. His piece of advice: always trust the compass, it does not lie.
