{"id":11266,"date":"2021-09-14T17:51:55","date_gmt":"2021-09-14T21:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/v2.mappyhour.org\/blog\/?p=11266"},"modified":"2024-03-13T17:47:33","modified_gmt":"2024-03-13T21:47:33","slug":"micro-adventure-by-bike-with-adamx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/2021\/09\/micro-adventure-by-bike-with-adamx\/","title":{"rendered":"A New York Micro Adventure By Bike with AdamX"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>First things first, I\u2019m not much of a writer, so let me apologize in advance for the long run on sentences that are about to fill your screen.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>I\u2019ve always been an adventurer, I prided myself on being the first one to say yes to something without a plan. I would postpone my daily life to go on an adventure.&nbsp;The problem with being an \u201cadventurer\u201d is that as you grow old, you get <em>real<\/em> jobs (or at least your friends do) and you have <em>real<\/em> responsibilities which then gives you less time to adventure.&nbsp;Which is exactly what lead me to this specific adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The plan was to go on a bikepacking trip and we needed to find a route that allowed most of us to leave from our houses, work half a day, and be back at home for work on Monday.&nbsp;The goal was to have an epic adventure all while not having to take off work or drive hours to get to a location. I\u2019ve got a plan, I said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 1: The Adventure Begins<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So I left Hamburg, NY with Tyler and Matt riding our fully packed bikes North towards Buffalo, NY.\u00a0 We traveled only 20 miles before picking up Kris, Pat and Adam along the trail. Again the point of this trip was to fit in as much as we could in a weekend all while leaving from the comforts of our homes.\u00a0 We continued north along the Niagara River\u00a0 nearly another 40 miles until we hit our first stop.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.niagaracamping.com\/\">A campground!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Campsite-fun.jpg\" alt=\"Campsite fun\" class=\"wp-image-11269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Campsite-fun.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Campsite-fun-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Campsite-fun-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Campsite-fun-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Campsite-fun-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Campsite-fun-630x420.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This wasn\u2019t a primitive site, we had wifi, a shelter, a store and local full time campers surrounding us.&nbsp; For many of us this was a bizarre scenario, when we think adventure we usually think primitive, and for this trip, that was not the case.&nbsp; So we set up our tents\/hammocks and got settled in for the night.&nbsp; As we get closer to dinner time, my friends begin to ask questions\u2026 WHAT IS FOR DINNER?  I smirk and say I ordered pizza.&nbsp; Again my friends think PIZZA? On an adventure?&nbsp; What a brilliant idea.&nbsp; So we crushed pizza, drank Sierra Nevadas and told stories around a camp fire for hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/KRG08806.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/KRG08806.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/KRG08806-400x267.jpg 400w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/KRG08806-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/KRG08806-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/KRG08806-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/mappyhour.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/KRG08806-630x420.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Day 2: The Adventure &#8230; Changes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next morning we woke up to severe weather alerts, flash flooding and well\u2026. a miserable weather outlook.&nbsp; We walk over to the shelter, using our jetboils to make coffee and oatmeal for our breakfast.&nbsp; We look at each other and begin to discuss our plans for the day.&nbsp; Adam suggests we stay set up where we are and plan on doing an out and back for our ride that day, the group looks at each other votes and decides that is the best plan.&nbsp; Our tents were set up, they were dry, and at the end of the day we had no real destination for the trip.&nbsp; This was a learning experience for all of us, as we are use to having an objective, a purpose.
