Often extending for miles, a cave\u2019s intricate passageways contain crystalline formations that may have taken many thousands of years to form. The caves, grottos and caverns of Colorado are spread throughout the state, each complex in their own unique way.<\/p>\n

Last night, Mappy Hour Denver got together at The North Face Cherry Creek<\/a> for Kevin Manley’s, the President of the Front Range Grotto<\/a>, very engaging and eye opening presentation on caves. Our speaker showcased the Colorado caves on the top of his list as well as reached into this trusty pack for a “show and tell” portion; all the items a caver should never leave home without!<\/p>\n

When caving, you will need to obtain a permit beforehand. Find your cave of choice online, fill out the paperwork and submit. For most caves you only need to request a permit 4 days prior to your adventure. Check out a few highlights from the evening:<\/p>\n

The Front Range Grotto is a local chapter of the National Speleological Society (NSS). The mission of the NSS is to study, explore and conserve cave and karst resources; protect access to caves; encourage responsible management of caves and their unique environments and promote responsible caving.
