Ah, the summer of 2020. We had so many plans for you and yet, here we are, stuck within the confines of our own apartments, cities and regional boundaries. But wait, that’s actually what Mappy Hour is all about: exploring locally and discovering that adventure is in the nooks and crannies of our neighborhoods, parks and states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enter: Summer of Bikepacking. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting next week, we’ll be doing a series of webinars all about bikepacking with an awesome line up of experienced bikepackers. We’re also working on an archive of tips, gear lists, and itineraries so it’s easy to find the information you need to go on your first trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is bikepacking?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dedicated sources like Bikepacking.com <\/a>(they have ALL the info if you really want to get into it) defines it as “the synthesis of mountain biking and minimalist camping”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’re defining it more broadly to be biking and camping.*<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

So whatever type of bike you have, bring it along! <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why bikepacking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Many of us don’t have personal vehicles and public transit is… challenging these days. Our hope is that biking can provide a vehicle for both transportation and adventure.<\/li>
  • As we discovered from our trip last year with 718 Cyclery<\/a> – it doesn’t require a ton of new gear. Don’t have a tent? Try a hammock (bonus: it’s super lightweight!)<\/li>

    What’s with all the beer?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    As many of you know, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co<\/a>. has been supporting Mappy Hour since 2015<\/strong>. This is a brand that shows up when we ask and sends some delicious brews too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
