"This project came about through John Shackelford and Jon Lynn, who shot the teaser, and they found each other through cycling. They met up on their bikes, and they just started shooting. The reason behind it is about visibility. In cycling, you don’t see a lot of black people, you don’t see a lot of people of color, but there are people who love the sport, they love to participate in it, and there’s hope that this ride will be a beacon of inspiration, it’s a ride of protest to encourage people who look like himself, who look like us, to want to get on bikes." - Brittony McKenny, associate producer Underground Railroad Ride

Last year, we interviewed Brittony in advance of the team's ride from from Alabama to DC. Spoiler alert: they successfully completed the ride and are now on the next phase of creating their documentary and sharing the story. We're honored tonight to be joined by ride leader and NYC-based bike messenger John Shackelford as he shares the story of the ride.

All tickets from tonight's event go to John's new organization: smiles4milestour which will giveaway bikes across the country.

This event is part of a summer long series with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. dedicated to bikepacking. Grab a Pale Ale and join us to learn skills, hear stories and start planning your summer of biking and camping. Join in.
