About
Full datetime event:
Thursday, March 10, 2022From 7:00 pm to 9:00 pmDescription
March Mappy Hour will feature Shilletha Curtis who will share her personal story of how mental health issues led her to hiking and her racism and hate on the Appalachian Trail led her to writing. She'll dive into the history of women and systemic racism on the trail and how that influenced her personal experiences. She'll also share details on her upcoming book and thru-hike.
After Shilletha speaks, we'll share in a group discussion, drink a few beers and celebrate Mappy Hour's b-day! Beer for the evening provided by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and is included in your ticket.
About Dragonsky
Shilletha Curtis (she/her) known on trail as "Dragonsky " is a lesbian hiker, professional writer and influencer from New Jersey who is actively pursuing the Triple Crown of hiking. She will be the second Black woman to achieve the status and will be thru-hiking the Continental Divide Trail this April. She successfully completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in November 2021 and her first article "Not Just Another Hiker" was published in 2020 by the ATC and The Trek prompting conversations about racism around the world. Since then, it has been her mission to diversify the outdoors, make the AT more accessible to BIPOC and address inequalities and racism within the hiking community.
P.S. it's Mappy Hour's birthday so there will some extra (delicious) festivities for the night!
