Join us for an unforgettable overnight backpacking adventure designed specifically for first-time backpackers! We will be hiking along the Appalachian Trail, starting from Gathland State Park and ending at Weaverton Cliffs, with a total distance of 7 miles. Our overnight stay will be at the picturesque Ed Garvey Shelter.
This event is the perfect opportunity to test out your new gear and gain confidence and skills in backpacking. The hike is rated as easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners. Along the way, you'll be surrounded by stunning natural scenery and have the chance to connect with fellow outdoor enthusiasts.

Meeting at Gathland State Park to hike Southbound (SOBO)
Staying overnight at Ed Garvey Shelter.
Returning to Gathland the next day.
*Option to continue SOBO to Weaverton Cliff (Weaverton Road) towards Harpers Ferry, WVa
Suggested Gear List:
• Tent (poles/stakes)
• Sleeping Pad (R value 4 or more)
• Sleeping Bag/ Quilt (25*)
• water filter
• backpacking stove/ fuel
• trowel / TP / toiletries (biodegradable)
• basic first aid
• food
• extra sleep layer (synthetic fiber)
• headlamp/flashlight
