This year for Earth Day, we’re celebrating how nature has bounced back in unexpected ways during lockdown by discussing The Year Earth Changed from Apple TV+.

The special premieres on April 16th, so you’ll have 4 days to watch on AppleTV+ (subscription required) before tuning in to our Mappy Hour LIVE panel discussion powered by The North Face.

Mike Gunton - Creative Director of Factual and The Natural History Unit at BBC Studios, Executive Producer on The Year Earth Changed

Mike works as an executive producer on many BBC titles and is responsible for bringing new and pioneering stories about the natural world to global audiences.

Mike has worked on many critically acclaimed series including Planet Earth II, Dynasties Galapagos, Yellowstone, Madagascar, Life, Africa, Shark, Attenborough and the Giant Dinosaur and Life Story, and speaks internationally at media and scientific gatherings as an ambassador for Natural History filmmaking, the BBC and the natural world.

Kit DesLauriers - Ski mountaineer, National Geographic Adventurer of the Year (2015)

Kit DesLauriers is a professional ski mountaineer and adventurer based in Jackson Hole, WY. She is the first person to ski from the highest mountain on each continent, aka the Seven Summits, and is a two-time World Freeskiing Women’s Champion. Kit was inducted to the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2019 and has been a member of The North Face Global Athlete Team since 2005.

Kit is an advocate for protecting the Arctic Refuge and volunteers her time through board service for Alaska Wilderness League and as part of the Protect Our Winters Riders Alliance.

Moderator: Carol Shu - Senior Manager of Global Sustainability at The North Face

Carol's work ranges from retail waste to sustainable products and materials. She manages TNF’s certification to the Responsible Down Standard, a standard co-created by The North Face to bring traceability into the down supply chain, and helps teams across the brand action on TNF’s sustainability strategy. She previously managed product development and production for Stewart Brown Inc., and worked on sustainability communications and outreach at UC Davis. She co-founded Aggie Reuse Store, a creative reuse store housed at UC Davis. She has a BA and an MFA in Design from UC Davis and an MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio Graduate School.

Narrated by David Attenborough, never-before-seen footage shows how our living in lockdown opened the door for nature to bounce back and thrive. Across the seas, skies, and lands, Earth found its rhythm when we came to a stop.
