The North Face Summer Base Camp offers free activities for at home adventure

The North Face (a Mappy Hour sponsor!) is launching a truly impressive line-up of at home activities and guides this coming Monday. While each of the class topics sounds interesting in itself, it’s the instructors we’re most excited about. Ever heard of Jimmy Chin? Ashima Shiraishi?

Yup, The North Face is putting those athletes to work for all of our enjoyment with a multi session virtual summer camp. The summer camp activities drop on specific dates and are then available on the site for as long as you want to keep on watching. And yes, it’s all completely free.

WEEK 1:

ADVENTURE PHOTOGRAPHY WITH JIMMY

Campers join photographer and mountaineer Jimmy Chin for a crash course in snapping epic shots and learn to make their own pinhole cameras.

GEOMETRIC DESIGNS WITH NINA

Climber Nina Williams teaches campers about natural-formed patterns and shares how to create a masterpiece with items found in the backyard.

When: Wednesday, 07.22.20

SNACKS TO PACK WITH ASHIMA

Who’s up for a snack attack? Campers head to the kitchen with climber Ashima Shiraishi for tips on making healthy (and delicious) trail-friendly treats.

Week 2:

MAPMAKING WITH COREE

Ultrarunner Coree Woltering teaches map making and other handy navigational tricks for getting out (without getting lost).

When: Monday, 07.27

SURVIVAL SKILLS WITH MANOAH

Campers circle up with climber Manoah Ainuu to learn six essential skills for surviving in the wilderness.

When: Wednesday, 07.29

BACKYARD BASE CAMP WITH HILAREE

Ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson shares what it’s like to climb Mt. Everest and teaches campers how to build (and pack for) at-home base camps.

When: Friday, 07.31
