Description

The 2018-2019 winter was a historic season for avalanches in Colorado. The Denver Mappy Hour January event will not only take a look back at the ingredients from some of those iconic events, but will dig into the future of avalanches in Colorado as well. Dr. Jon Kedrowski will discuss winter weather and climate to better prepare locals for the ski season. The event will focus on typical weather and snowpack conditions in Colorado for the downhill and backcountry skier along with featuring avalanche safety and backcountry preparedness.

Jon will also share stories from his September 2019 experience of climbing Manaslu, the 8th highest mountain in the world, without the use of supplemental oxygen. He will discuss the strategy, risk management and weather considerations for climbing an 8,000m Himalayan giant.

Dr. Jon Kedrowski, a CO native, is a geographer, author, and ski-mountaineer. He began skiing at age 2, climbed his first 14er at the age of 8 and finished climbing all 58 Colorado 14ers before he turned 18. Jon’s recent projects include climbing six of the seven continental summits and four Mt. Everest expeditions (2012, 2015, 2018, and 2019).
