Description

Cooler temps, falling leaves, shorter days -- fall is well and truly upon us! Let's take a weekend for the outdoors before the holiday season rushes in and whisks us away into 2024!

We're going a bit further out of town this month to Chisel Branch Hiker/Biker Campsite on the C&O Towpath!

This campground has portable toilets, a campfire ring, a picnic table, and a water pump. However, the water pumps on the Towpath are no longer treated so you will need a method to purify and filter this water before using it to cook or drink.

Tickets are free as there will not be firewood provided and there is no fee for using the site.

The time listed for this event is just a placeholder -- there is no real start or end time, and you can arrive at and depart from camp whenever you want.

You can find out more about Chisel Branch here: https://www.canaltrust.org/pyv/chisel-branch-campsite/

I (Jun) will not be leading a ride out from Georgetown this time around! I'll be at camp by 3-4pm, and will likely pick up the Towpath at Swains Lock by around 1-2pm. If you're interested in linking up and riding part of the way together, please reach out and we'll make it happen!

Other than that, you're free to bike or drive to camp on your own schedule. The Edward's Ferry parking lot is just half a mile along the Towpath from Chisel Branch.

If you are interested in biking to camp but don't have bikepacking experience, reach out to Jun asap, and preferably at least a few days in advance, at juniperdarwinyoung@gmail.com directly and we'll get you set up.
