DEN: Colorado Leadership

Mappy Hour is a community of urban dwelling outdoor enthusiasts who gather monthly around maps, guidebooks, beer, and adventure stories.

We hosted this event during the Outdoor Retailer and Winter Market / Snow Show, the largest outdoor-focused trade show in North America. Thus, we brought together a panel of Colorado Executive Directors, Vice Presidents, and Founders/Owners to talk about the current state of the affairs in Colorado, and Colorado leadership in the outdoors.

Our gracious host and venue sponsor for the evening was The North Face, at their Cherry Creek store on Detroit Street. More than 50 people from around the Front Range came to hear from our diverse panel of leaders. 10 Barrel Company provided us with some tasty “Trail Beer” lagers.

Our panel of leaders consisted of Erik Glenn, Executive Director of Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust, Niki Koubourlis, Founder & CEO of Bold Betties, Jimmy Funkhouser, Founder/Owner of Feral Mountain Co, and Taylor Ogilvie, Vice President of Vail Resorts Inc.

We discussed how Colorado organizations, communities, groups, individuals, and activities are leading the way for outdoor recreation, environmental/climate change impacts, conservation, policy (public lands), and the future of the industry as a whole. The panel touched on inclusion and diversity in the outdoors, how their respective organizations are working toward a more sustainable future, and much more!

In addition, our Mappy Hour members came in force, donating $10–$50 per person throughout the night to the Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust. Together, we raised over $400 for this non-profit organization that helps “Protect Colorado, One Ranch at a Time”.

Thanks to the gracious in-kind donations of Icelantic Skis, National Geographic Maps, and The North Face; attendees were given raffle tickets and dozens of prizes were given away throughout the night!
