At July’s Mappy Hour, we learned firsthand how to train for the mountains anywhere, in any conditions.
Joined by ultrarunner Hal Koerner and Olympic gold medal snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington, a hardy group of about 30 athletes ran to Theodore Roosevelt Island, where The North Face Mountain Athletics trainers led us through an endurance workout. With the heat index well above 100, we ran, planked, squatted, burpeed, and gave out plenty of sweaty high fives.
After the workout, we were ready for some food! Luckily, Strong Fit Meals, Raw!, and Zico Coconut Water were waiting for us at The North Face Georgetown. As we refueled and rehydrated, Mappy-goers also had a chance to talk to Hal and Kaitlyn and pick their brains about training, competing, injuries, mountains, and what it’s like to win a gold medal.
Thanks to Hal and Kaitlyn for hanging out with us (and for letting us take selfies with the gold medal!) and to The North Face for hosting us all summer. We had a blast.
