DC: Giving Back, Getting Kids Outside

Mappy Hour DC got into the holiday spirit at Meridian Pint in December. Members brought in new and lightly used gear to donate to City Kidsa local non-profit that brings DC kids who might not otherwise experience the outdoors into the wilderness.

Eloise Russo, the executive director of City Kids, and Callie Sadler, director of programs, told us more about how City Kids serves DC’s youth through after-school programs and a summer camp in Jackson, WY. And for a second, it felt like we were all at summer camp, as Callie led a game of group rock-paper-scissors, where the loser had to cheer on the winner, until finally we had two players left standing and two giant cheering squads.

Callie and Eloise also talked about ways to get involved with City Kids, whether as a trip leader or an office volunteer. If you missed this Mappy Hour but still want to get involved, you can check out the City Kids website, or reach out to mappyhourdc@outdoorfest.com and we’ll put you in touch.

Thanks this month to Meridian Pint for hosting, The North Face and REI for great raffle prizes, and of course, City Kids.
