Will Estes joined the Mappy Hour community and spoke about weekend camping trips in the Baltimore area and the fifteen minute prep activities that adventurers can perform throughout the week in order to prepare for these trips!

Will spoke about what gear is essential to a successful hiking trip, such as some form of shelter whether that be a tent, hammock or tarp, sleep system, clothing, water and food.  He emphasized the importance of proper footwear and a well-fitting pack, especially for longer trips and local shops in the local area where attendees could be fitted for both.

Will suggested simple meals for a weekend trip that are easy to pack, how to make meal prep easier and meals that will provide a lot of energy such as freeze dried meals for those without stoves, PBJ, jerky and more for those without camping stoves.

Will also emphasized how you can over prepare with the best gear and still have things go wrong. You can also have the simplest items and still have a blast outdoors. The most important thing is to get outside and know that confidence and experience will come over time.

Thanks so much to everyone who joined Baltimore’s first Mappy Hour and to De Kleine Duivel for hosting us! We can’t wait to see you next time!
