This month, Mappy Hour took a slightly different turn as we headed outdoors for an experiential Mappy Hour on slacklines at NYC Parks Riverside Rings.
“slack·lin·ing | ˈslaklīniNG/ | noun
Slacklining refers to the act of walking or balancing along a suspended length of flat webbing that is tensioned between two anchors.

The night started off with a Good.Clean.Fun workout and various games set up by NYC Parks & Recreation. Then local slackliners Becky, Tun, Josh, and Jake set up slacklines at different heights and lengths to accommodate the varied levels of everyone for the night (longer & higher lines are more challenging, shorter and lower to the ground make it easier).

Participants had a chance to try out the various lines and learn everything from the basics of taking a step to sitting down on the line. As the sun began to set we got to watch the pros do their thing, taking on higher lines and even doing a few tricks.

Afterwards we headed up to the bar to enjoy a few beers together and talk about our next slacklining adventure. Thanks to all who joined! Next month we’ll be at the North Face talking trail running.
