Philly Pop Up Mappy Hour

This summer Mappy Hour is popping up in 10+ cities throughout North America and the very first Pop Up Mappy Hour went down in the city of brotherly love on April 21.  We started Mappy Hour like normal with nametags, maps and a cold beer.

Our first speaker of the evening was Trish, the Environmental Education Program Specialist at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation’s Wissahickon Environmental Center. Along with being super knowledgeable about the beautiful places to explore close by, Trish is also a frequent forager (fun fact: you CAN forage in Philadelphia Parks if it’s an invasive species). She not only brought plants for us to smell and taste but a homemade stinging nettle pesto she had made (recipe here).

After everyone had a chance to taste the food and learn a bit we heard a few community organizations talk about their work including Urban Blazers and Hidden River Outfitters. The night definitely got us excited to explore the Schuylkill River and Philadelphia’s local parks! Thanks to Mappy Hour leader Marc Cassone for making this Pop Up location a reality!
