This past summer, we gathered at the Alley by Verizon for a night of chatting and learning about photography. Before we even arrived though, a bunch of you added your favorite photograph to the #MappyHourDC instagram contest. Here are a few of our favorites:
The night was led by the folks from National Geographic’s Your Shot Community where anyone can share your outdoor and adventure photos. Here are a few of their tips we learned as we sipped on our Sierra Nevada Brews.
How to improve your outdoor photography:
- Although we are Nat Geo’s photo community, you don’t need to climb a mountain or hike through a dense forest to share a moment on our site. Incredible moments are all around you that can be photographed, you just have to be looking in the right spot.
- The best camera is the one you have on you, whether thats your DSLR, mobile phone, or polaroid.
- Lighting can make such a big difference between a great photo and a not so great one. Be patience and wait for some great light to happen
- Never be afraid of just picking up whatever camera you have and making the pictures of what’s in front of you – taking the first step is the hardest.
Thanks to Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. we were also able to put together this fun video highlighting the night:
