Description

Be Self-Reliant. Understand Your Limits. Carry the 10 Essentials. This is not a commercial event. This is a social event to be enjoyed by our group. Max Group size is 15 people in the Eagles Nest Wilderness. If you are coming solo, please consider making a new friend and sharing a tent. We want to minimize our environmental footprint as much as possible on this group trip.

This trip involves the following:

• Backpacking with loads of 20 – 40lbs
• Overnight camping on the mountain at high elevations
• Hikers should be in good physical condition
• ~14 miles
• ~3500ft to ~4000ft of elevation gain
• 2 nights, 2.5 days

It is recommended that you have at least 3-nights of previous wilderness camping and backpacking experience.

Registration for this event will close on August 18th at Noon (1200). Once the event registration closes, I will send you an e-mail with more information about the gear I'm bringing, the general route overview, and will happily answer any questions you have. A portion of this route will be navigating off-trail for a few miles. I HAVE DONE THIS ROUTE BEFORE (2 years ago). I would classify it as a Class 2 backpacking trip.

Class 2 is defined as hiking that could require some route-finding skills and may take you over boulder fields or loose rock slopes (loose rocks are also referred to as “scree”). There is a chance you will need to use your hands for balance. Also, the hiker could face some minimal exposure. Exposure means you are on a steep slope with little or no protection from a fall. But not to worry, Class 2 exposure is minimal, and a fall here might result in only minor to severe injuries, rather than peril. (https://www.14ers.com/difficultyratings.php)

Search for "Camping/Backcountry Gear Lists" online to see recommendations of what to bring. I like reading through Andrew Skurka's blog (https://andrewskurka.com/section/gear-lists/)
