CHI: Black River Preserve Hike in South Haven

A small crew from Mappy Hour Chicago headed over to Michigan for a Remote Work Adventure at Off Map in South Haven Michigan. The camp and co-working adventure included staying at “glamping” campground Off Map, remote co-working at ThinkBar Coworking in downtown South Haven, and exploring local bars, restaurants, and trails after hours.

One of the highlights of the trip was hiking at Black River Forest Preserve, a 120-acre wildlife area part of the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy system of forest preserves. Black River Preserve spans nearly three miles of meandering and intersecting trails through deep ravines and beech-maple forestland, and alongside the Black River just west of downtown South Haven.

The route the group hiked was the outer loop of the larger trail system. From leaf-covered trails to blaze-spotting among the firey foliage along the pathway – this trip was all-encompassing of a quintessential fall hike in Southwest Michigan.
